WHAT SMOOTHIES ARE GOOD FOR PREGNANCY?

A smoothie with a balance of fruits and vegetables with some superfoods like flax seeds, hemp hearts, chia seeds, or other nuts and seeds will give add plenty of nutrition to start your day. You can also add your favorite safe for pregnancy protein powders into this green smoothie.

In the early weeks and months of pregnancy, morning sickness can really impact your food intake. A nutrient-dense smoothie is easy to enjoy and also filled with a good portion of your daily fruit and vegetable needs for your growing baby.

When making a smoothie in general you want to ensure that you’re using a balance of fruits and vegetables. We opt for leafy greens like spinach or kale and some frozen fruit.

When adding in liquids keep in mind that fruit juices and even whole fruits can make the sugar content much higher, even higher than soda! For liquids, we go with water, coconut water, nut milk like almond milk, or oat milk.

A healthy smoothie for pregnancy is a balanced smoothie, add your favorite fruits and vegetables. If you have leftovers you could even make them into smoothie popsicles!

    CAN I USE OTHER VEGETABLES?

Yes! We love adding more veggies to our smoothie whenever possible. We love steaming things like cauliflower, sweet potato, and zucchini to use in smoothies. You could use this as a base and add in some frozen cauliflower, sweet potato, zucchini, cucumbers, or even other leafy greens like kale.

IS THIS SMOOTHIE ONLY FOR PREGNANT PEOPLE?

Absolutely not! Everyone can enjoy this delicious smoothie, kids and adults both love it!

HOW DO YOU MAKE A SMOOTHIE CREAMY?

Adding fat can make this smoothie much creamier. Things like banana and mango will naturally make it creamier, but it also adds a lot of sugar. Our fats of choice would be some soaked cashews, nut butter, fresh avocado, or even coconut milk.

Another option is using the tamper tool on your Vitamix blender or other high-speed blender and using less liquid to create a thick and creamy smoothie.

We’re expecting! We have a bundle of joy on the way! This first half of my pregnancy was pretty tough, but I’m slowly feeling like myself again and glad to be back. I’ll be posting a lot of my pregnancy cravings and hope you all enjoy them as much as we do! I may be here and there due to my pregnancy being high risk. I have complete placenta previa and we are praying it moves up, so we’ll see how that goes as we get closer to baby’s due date.
