This Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal makes for the perfect fall breakfast. Rolled oats cooked with tender freshly cooked apples, a hint of cinnamon, sweetened with maple syrup, and a little bit of oat milk to add even more creaminess.

Who else loves apple picking? There’s nothing better than enjoying fresh apples picked right from the tree. We love picking as many as we can and then using them in recipes like this or even a simple apple cider. Did you know that the apples in the store could be months old? Read more on “How fresh are your apples?“.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS OATMEAL

It’s warm, comforting, and super filling. Filled with all the fall flavors and just makes you feel cozy. You can cook this in just 10 minutes on the stovetop.

    OATMEAL TOPPINGS:

This oatmeal is great as is, but some of our favorite additions would be chopped nuts, seeds. hemp hearts, a drizzle of nut butter, or even raw apples.

    APPLE CINNAMON OATMEAL INGREDIENTS

To make this easy breakfast oatmeal recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

    • Apples: You can use whatever apples you have on hand. We prefer more of a firm apple, not a softer apple like McIntosh.
    • Cinnamon: One of our favorite warm spices, you could also add nutmeg, cloves, or even pumpkin spice or apple pie spice.
    • Water: Water will help cook the apples and then once they’re tender you’ll use the flavored water to cook the oats.
    • Rolled Oats: We use gluten-free rolled oats, but traditional rolled oats work just as well if you have no issues. You could also use steel-cut oats if you have more time to cook.
    • Maple Syrup: This is our preferred sweetener. You could use whatever sweetener you prefer.
    • Oat Milk: A little splash of homemade oat milk adds a slight creaminess to this oatmeal recipe. Use your favorite plant-based milk to keep this apple cinnamon oatmeal vegan or you can use regular dairy if desired.

HOW TO MAKE APPLE CINNAMON OATMEAL

    1. Chop the apples into small bite-size pieces, small enough so that it’s not huge chunks in the oatmeal.
    2. Place the apples into a saucepan and then add in the water and cinnamon. Bring to a boil and cook the apples until desired tenderness, then scoop them out from the water and set aside.
    3. Pour the oatmeal into the saucepan with the water from cooking the apples, bring to a boil and then reduce cooking for 4-5 minutes, stirring as needed.
    4. Once the oatmeal is just about finished cooking add in the maple syrup, apples that you set aside, and a bit of oat milk. Stir to combine.
    5. Serve while warm.

You can save the apple core and any apple scraps to add to your next simmer pot or compost them.

Yummy and super simple! I added some sea salt at the end, too.
