We give our cherries a good wash and make sure they’re nice and clean before pitting. Always plan ahead before pitting your cherries. Cherries stain and splatter all over when pitting. The best way to pit cherries is in a large sized bowl. Doing it in a large bowl creates splatter on the bowl, instead of all over.
If you don’t want to use a bowl you can use a plate, towel, anything that is easy to clean up. Just know that if you’re using your favorite towel the cherry juice will stain the towel. We have used lemon essential oil with success in removing cherry stains from fabric so that is worth a try if you’ve already stained your shirt/towel.
With the OXO pitter, simply place the cherry inside the device and push the pitter close. Viola, you have pitted cherries. Hurry up and enjoy them. They are quicker and easier to eat then they are to pit! Kids can now enjoy and you don’t need to use a knife. We have tried cherry pitters that pit multiple cherries, but we prefer the single cherry pitter.
Cherries freeze well, so if you’re going to get a lot when you’re cherry picking go ahead and remove the cherry pits before freezing. We love pitting a bunch of cherries to freeze and then use the frozen cherries for smoothies and even our cherry popsicles.
