HOW TO CUT A PINEAPPLE
Need a better visual? We show you how to cut a pineapple on youtube in the recipe card below.
First, you want to wash your pineapple. Whenever you slice into something you’re cutting the skin into the flesh and that would push bacteria into your food, not a good start.
To remove the skin you need a cutting board and a chef knife. Place the cutting board on a flat surface and hold onto the pineapple while cutting.
Once your pineapple is washed you can start to cut, we first cut off the top then we cut off the bottom.
Take your knife and start to cut off the pineapple skin.
Get as close to the skin meets the fruit as you can, you can always go back and cut the pineapple eyes when you see some.
Once the pineapple has all of the skin and eyes removed, cut on both sides of the core and then once you have a long piece with flesh on both sides of the core remove those pineapple flesh pieces. Then you can either chew on the extra fruit that’s still on the core or discard.
Now that the pineapple is separate from the core you can cut the pineapple into chunks. Make lengthwise cuts then crosswise cuts.
Wasn’t that simple? Skip the already cut pineapple and make your own freshly cut pineapple. You could also use fun gadgets like a pineapple cutter and corer.
When you cut up fresh fruit at home you’ll have more too! Store in a glass container with a lid or even a reusable silicone bag.
CAN YOU EAT A PINEAPPLE CORE?
You can, but it’s very tough to eat. If you don’t want to waste it you can add it to your smoothies or even juice it.
CAN YOU FREEZE PINEAPPLE?
Yes! If you can’t finish your fresh cut pineapple you can freeze for later. We usually use frozen pineapple for nice cream, smoothies, slushies, or snacking on frozen.
