Learn how to cut a peach into slices or chunks! We share step-by-step photos and a how-to video on how to cut peaches for all your favorite peach recipes.
Peaches are so delicious and even better when you get them fresh when peach picking! We love using fresh peaches in recipes like our peach muffin recipe or our peach milk recipe.
HOW TO SOFTEN PEACHES
Sometimes, peaches aren’t super ripe when you get them. We find the best way to soften peaches is by allowing them to rest on the counter for 2-3 days.
HOW TO PEEL A PEACH
There are a few methods. If the peach is firm, you can use a vegetable peeler. If the fruit is extra ripe, you can easily remove the skin. If you’re peeling a large batch, we suggest blanching peaches.
- Boil a pot of water and place the peaches for 30-40 seconds.
- Transfer the blanched peaches to an ice bath and remove the skin easily.
HOW TO CUT A PEACH
Wash and dry the peaches.
Place the peach onto a sturdy cutting board and use a paring knife to carefully cut the peach in half through the flesh, not the pit.
Twist the peach halves, and then you can easily remove the pit if it’s a freestone peach.
If it’s a clingstone peach, you’ll need to cut the half with the pit in half, and then you can get a better grip and remove the pit. This works for any other stone fruit, like apricots, nectarines, and plums.
Slice or chop into desired pieces.
HOW TO PICK PEACHES
If you’re picking peaches off a peach tree, you want to gently grab the peach and see if it’s ripe. If it is, you should be able to twist and pull the peach off the tree with ease.
If you’re purchasing peaches from the store, you should be able to feel if the peach is ripe. You want to avoid any peaches with any soft spots or bruising. The color should be an orange or red hue without green.
HOW TO STORE PEACHES
We recommend storing peaches on the counter. If they’re ripe and you won’t be able to enjoy them, we suggest placing them in the refrigerator, but for long-term storage, you can also freeze peaches.
HOW TO COOK PEACHES
Our favorite way to cook peaches is our peach muffins recipe. You can also use peaches in smoothies like our banana peach smoothie! A few slices added to a salad, perfection!
