Cheddar Broccoli Tots make for a fun side dish recipe. Sprinkle a little sea salt once finished and enjoy. We make our broccoli tots gluten-free so even those with gluten sensitivities can enjoy.
Why should you make broccoli tots at home?
Broccoli tots are extremely easy to make at home and you can control all of the broccoli tots ingredients. You can easily use an egg replacer to make vegan broccoli tots, you can add in other veggies like shredded carrots or even spinach. A lot of products have tons of fillers and ingredients we can’t even pronounce, it’s nice to be able to take a few simple ingredients. This is one of our go-to healthy snacks for kids. If you have an issue getting your kids to eat their veggies broccoli tots are worth a try, they’re absolutely delicious!
Broccoli Tots Ingredients
If you want more cheese you can definitely add more cheese to the broccoli tot recipe. We put enough cheese so that we can taste it in the tots, but they’re not oozing with cheese. If we’re craving lots of cheese we usually double the amount of cheese, so that means instead of 1/3 cup we’d do 2/3 cups. Don’t want cheese and want bigger tater tots? How to make Broccoli Tots
Simply mix all the ingredients together and form into the shape we all know and lot, tots! You can place the broccoli tots right onto your baking sheet and just spray them lightly with a little olive oil spray. If you want to protect your pan you can use a nonstick baking mat. For easy cleanup, you could also use parchment paper, but we like placing them right onto the sheet pan.
Serve your broccoli tots with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup or even try out our fry sauce which is excellent for tots and fries. We also love serving them with some a delicious homemade falafel recipe.
Cheddar Broccoli Tots
- 2 cups broccoli
- 1 medium potato
- 1 egg
- 1/8 cup onion minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic granulated
- 1/3 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- Preheat oven to 425.
- Steam or boil broccoli and potatoes until tender, not mushy.
- Once they are done mash the potatoes with a potato masher.
- Chop the broccoli and onion in a food processor, you can also chop finely if you'd prefer.
- Mix together the veggies, egg, cheddar cheese, salt, pepper, and garlic.
- Form the mixture into tots and place on a baking sheet.
- Lightly spray the tots with olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
