Honey Garlic Salmon Ingredients:
- Salmon – We recommend using 6 oz portions of salmon per person. Salmon is the star of this dish and we prefer to purchase wild caught whenever possible like King salmon or Sockeye salmon.
- Water – This helps thin the sauce, ensuring it has a pourable consistency that will evenly coat the salmon.
- Cornstarch – This acts as a thickener for the sauce. Mix it with cold water to make a slurry and then add to the sauce pan. This will prevent lumps.
- Avocado Oil – Used for sautéing and cooking the salmon. This high smoke point oil makes it ideal for medium-high heat cooking.
- Garlic Cloves – Finley chopping garlic adds a punch of flavor to the sauce, giving it a savory depth that complements the sweetness of the honey and the richness of the salmon.
- Honey – We use honey to add natural sweetness and it helps give a sticky glaze to the sauce. Honey’s natural sugars caramelize under heat, contributing to the sauce’s rich color and taste.
- Low Sodium Soy Sauce – Soy sauce provides a salty, umami flavor that balances the sweetness of the honey. You can use coconut aminos or tamari but measure accordingly to salt content.
How to make honey garlic salmon

In a skillet, heat the remaining avocado oil over medium heat. Cook salmon, first skin side up, for 5 minutes per side.
Once salmon is fully cooked (internal temperature of 145°F), pour the honey garlic sauce over the fillets.
Serve with your choice of sides.
Recipe Tips and Alterations:
- A squeeze of lemon juice can be added to the salmon before or after cooking for some brightness.
- Garnish the cooked salmon with freshly chopped green onions, parlsey or sesame seeds before serving for added color and a slight crunch.
- Cooking the salmon with the skin on can help keep the fish moist. But, if you prefer skinless salmon, it works just as well
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
- If you like a bit of heat, add a bit of crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce or a tablespoon of sriracha. This will give the dish a nice kick!
