Make this festive Christmas Veggie Tray for your next holiday party. Customize and add your favorite fruits and vegetables.
If you want to be technical, this is a fruit and veggie platter. Anything with a seed is considered a fruit, like tomatoes and cucumbers. The beauty of fruit and vegetable platters is adding your favorite produce items.
For a Christmas veggie platter, we recommend sticking to holiday colors. We love how much this looks like a veggie wreath and brings the holiday spirit to the appetizer table.
Christmas Veggie Platter Ingredients:
- Cucumbers – We prefer to use English or Persian cucumbers.
- Broccoli – We purchase broccoli crowns and cut them into florets, but you can also buy packaged broccoli florets in your local produce section.
- Tomatoes – Go for a mix of red and golden yellow tomatoes for a traditional look of Christmas ornaments.
- Red Bell Pepper – You can make a pretty red bow using red bell pepper.
- Dip – Our preferred dip is sour cream and onion dip. We use Toffuti and Lipon onion soup mix (kosher) to keep it dairy free and vegan. You could also use your favorite dressing.
How to make a Christmas Veggie Platter
Wash, cut, and prep the veggies. Arrange the veggies onto a clean serving platter.
We start with the cucumbers, add the broccoli, tomatoes, and finish a red pepper bow.
To make the bow, we use the bottom of the pepper, where it’s bulbous. You’ll need two for the loops. Then, where the ridge is in the pepper, we’ll slice it to make a cuffed ribbon look between the loops.
For the strings, you’ll cut two red pepper strips and a small V shape in the bottom of them to complete the look.
Once you’ve perfected your vegetable tray, you can serve right away with your favorite dip or dressing. If you’re not serving it right away you can refrigerate until ready to serve.
Recipe Tips and Alterations:
- Choose a few colors, but not too many.
- Use the smallest cherry tomatoes so you can use more.
- Cut prep time by using precut and prewashed produce.
- You could use a toothpick for the bow if desired, but we suggest not using a toothpick and only edible items so there are no safety issues
How to store:
- Refrigerate: You can prep this vegetable platter ahead of time and store in the refrigerator. We suggest no more than 2-3 days to enjoy.
