Place the clean peach onto a sturdy cutting board. Use a sharp paring knife to carefully cut the peach in half through the flesh, but not the pit.
Twist the peach halves with each hand to separate the peach. Now you can easily remove the pit if it's a freestone peach. If it's a clingstone peach, you'll need to cut the half with the pit in half, and then you can get a better grip on the pit to remove it.
