Learn how to make Oat Flour in seconds! It can be used for baked goods, pancakes, and even our healthy banana muffins.
Oats are nutrient-dense grains filled with fiber, protein, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, folate, and even some B vitamins. If you can’t stand the taste or texture of oatmeal you can find other ways to get this grain into your diet and oat flour makes it even easier.
Doctors have recommended oats for years for a healthy heart and a natural way to try to reduce cholesterol numbers before considering medication (along with a healthy diet and exercise). (1) Oatmeal is excellent for your microbiome and has a prebiotic effect. (2) So they don’t just make your heart happy, but also your gut!

What’s the best blender?
We use the Vitamix 5200 with the regular container, although they do sell a dry goods container as well we haven’t felt the need to use that for oat flour. To see why we think the Vitamix 5200 is the best blender, see our blender comparison video.
How to store oat flour
Keep the oat flour in an airtight container in a cool, dry place like a pantry. If you live in a humid climate or want to extend the shelf life, storing the oat flour in the refrigerator or freezer is a good option.
Homemade oat flour stored in the pantry typically lasts for 1-3 months. If stored in the refrigerator, it can last up to 3 months, and in the freezer, it can last up to 8-12 months.
How to use oat flour
Oat flour is an excellent way to get more fiber into your diet. It can be swapped out for flour in some recipes by tweaking other ingredients. It’s perfect for oat flour pancakes, baked goods, and, of course, our healthy banana muffins!
When baking with oats, the result will be a little denser instead of as light and fluffy as regular flour. Adding oat flour to a muffin recipe not only makes the recipe much healthier, but you could even enjoy it as your breakfast instead of a bowl of hot oatmeal.
