All About Cherries
There are a few types of Cherries, but the most common are Bing and Rainier Cherries. I can eat cherries like they’re candy, and I’m sure I’m not the only one! They’re sweet, crunchy, and the perfect snack. My favorite way to eat cherries is on their own or folded into a homemade vanilla ice cream!
FACT: A typical cherry tree produces 7,000 CHERRIES!
WHEN IS CHERRY SEASON? Cherries are in season from May through August. You can get them at your grocery store imported from Chile, during their summer which is late November to early January.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GROWN A CHERRY TREE If you were to plant today you would see your first cherries in 3-7 years.
HOW TO STORE CHERRIES Cherries should be stored in the refrigerator, and not washed until you’re ready to consume. Cherries can be stored for about a week or longer. We typically have them for 3 days and then they’re “poof” gone!
HOW TO CHOOSE CHERRIES You want cherries that are shiny, firm, and smooth. Bing, the darker the better. Stems should be green and not brown.
CAN YOU FREEZE CHERRIES Absolutely, they freeze extremely well! Just make sure to take out the pits prior to freezing.
