Chocolate Covered Bananas are the perfect frozen dessert! Overripe bananas paired with homemade chocolate using coconut oil and cacao powder topped with our favorite superfood toppings. We are proud to partner with iHerb on this sponsored post and recipe.
Chocolate Covered Bananas always hit the spot on a hot summer day and they’re so easy to make. Did you know you could even make your own chocolate in less than 5 minutes? This recipe is completely vegan and gluten-free depending on the toppings it can also be nut-free as well. We make these delicious frozen bananas year-round, but they’re especially good in the summer when it’s hot and you want a healthy treat to cool you down. You could even do on other frozen fruit!
There’s also another good reason we love these healthy ice pops, and not just because of the fruit, but the cacao. Cacao is excellent for the gut and microbiome (1), we suffer from digestive issues so we consume cacao daily and this is one of our favorite ways to enjoy it.
WHY SHOP ON iHerb?
We’re a busy generation. Online shopping saves us time and even saves us money. The health food store can cost so much more than the deals I’ve found on iHerb, sometimes even double the price. iHerb carries over 30,000 natural products and ships to over 150 countries, they always have what we need.
Their distribution centers are even climate-controlled so that they can ensure the best quality of the products. They over service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 10 different languages. I was able to get all the essentials for our chocolate covered bananas in less than 5 minutes and had it delivered to my door within the same week, enough time for the bananas to become spotted and perfect for this recipe.
You could easily just melt chocolate and cover your bananas, but by making the chocolate at home we can control the ingredients. Instead of using cocoa butter we use coconut oil, instead of using cocoa powder we use cacao powder, and instead of using sugar we use maple syrup. There’s no milk added and it’s completely dairy-free and refined sugar-free as well. When using the coconut oil it hardens quickly onto the frozen banana because coconut oil becomes solid in colder temperatures.
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE
We’re making coconut oil chocolate using coconut oil, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. This homemade chocolate is perfect for making chocolate covered bananas because you can dip the frozen bananas right into the fresh homemade chocolate and it will harden within seconds! By making it homemade we can control the amount of sugar, flavor, and of course, the quality of ingredients used.
